HERTZ RAC / FIREFLY

The $100 charge which showed up on my credit card account, listed as HERTZ RAC FIREFLY, turned out to be a gas station hold for when I bought gas for my rental car. They hold $100 for gasoline while your charge is processed. Some gas stations do this, although I haven't seen it for a long time.

When you sign the rental car agreement, you give permission for this type of charge to be posted automatically to the credit card used to rent the car. Also parking violations. And moving violations. Read the small print.

RAC Firefly is the adminstration fee charged by Hertz for providing the driver information to the police after a traffic violation. For example if a speed camera captures a violation of a rental car the police contact Hertz for the rentor information and Hertz provides the information. Hertz charges a fee for this. Expect a speeding ticket to follow.

Firefly is HERTZ new low budget brand. From Wikipedia: Firefly Car Rental is a low cost car rental brand owned by Hertz. Hertz developed the new brand to replace Advantage Rent a Car which had to be sold following the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group. It first opened in March 2013 with branches in Europe, with American branches following in September 2013.

RENTED CAR FROM FIREFLY A DIV. OF HERTZ 10/06 TO 10/13 in Los Cabos. We were told the weekly rental would come in for exactly $333 and confirm the $333.00 when we returned the car. We signed the bill for with what they called the equivalent pesos being of $7050.19. However when the bill came in Via Wells Fargo using our Debit Card it came in at $387.26 with the same $7050.19 Pesos. So Firefly must have initially lied about the exchange rate when they quoted us the $333.00 repeatedly. Where do we go from here. SBlinn
